 What Do Counselors Do?

School Counselors are responsible for the social/academic well-being and safety of every student.  There are many ways the counselors reach our to students including:

  • Individual Counseling: Talking with students one-on-one in a private setting.
  • Small group Counseling: Talking with a group of students who all have a common problem.
  • Classroom Guidance: Visiting classrooms to teach lessons on career awareness, social skills and study skills.
  • Grade level academics: Working with a small group of students on basic math or reading skills.  These groups run for 2-3 weeks during the school day.
School Counselors encourage character education by promoting the Character Word of the Month, celebrating Star Students of the Month and scheduling fun, informative educational programs.

 Academic Concerns

School Counselors are responsible for working with both teachers and parents to help students who may be struggling academically.  If you are concerned with your child's performance, please conference with your child's homeroom teacher first.  If necessary, the homeroom teacher or parent may contact the counselor for additional support.  Together we will create a plan to help your child be more successful throughout the school year!
